Leaping into 2018 with a whole load of lists│#LittleLoves

It’s the first Friday of the month, so time for another #littleloves. Where on earth has January disappeared to? After a long first week it seems to have flown by. A lot of this month has been spent organising, sorting and planning. Looking at my bullet journal it seems we’re going to have a jam-packed 2018. Despite the stack of “to do” lists we appear to have created I’ve still managed to find time to sit back and do some of the things I enjoy this month.

Read
I read 4 books in January - well on my way to meeting my “read 20 books this year” target. I do however think I’m going to have to slow down a little and go for quality over quantity. After finishing “The Paying Guests” I read “Parsnips, Buttered”, “Wilde Like Me” and “The Year of Living Danishly”. I have reviewed them all over on my GoodReads account but in short:

Guests - Ok, dragged on, unsatisfactory ending.
Parsnips - Quick, easy read. Funny and lighthearted.
Wilde - Really not for me.
Danishly - Interesting.

Watched
I have been totally hooked on Riverdale. It’s one of those “so bad it’s good” programmes. I’m not sure I’ve ever watched anything with so many fake redheads in it! The programme is set in the fictional town of Riverdale, the main characters attend Riverdale High, and it has all the American teen stereotypes - jocks, girl next door, gang, rich girl, etc etc etc. The teenagers solve mysteries and murders that the police department couldn’t, with a few tongue-in-cheek “we would have got away with it if it weren’t for you meddling kids” references for good measure.

I have also managed to blast through a couple of mini-series on Netflix - The Sinner and Alias Grace. I really enjoyed The Sinner. The 8 episode thriller series wasn't your typical who-dunnit. You know exactly who committed the crime, but you don't know why. And neither do they! Alias Grace is based on the book by Margaret Atwood. It was a little slower paced than The Sinner, but gripping all the same.

Heard
When we moved to Oxfordshire in February I did a Google search of things to do with kids locally. The one thing that popped up and stuck in my head was Nick Cope. Nick is a musician who writes family friendly songs and performs across the county. Going to one of his sessions has been on our to do list for all that time but we haven’t yet managed to go to one. We have, however, listened to him a lot on YouTube. We had a bit of a Nick Cope break, but recently it’s all the kids want to listen to.

Unsurprisingly, Charlotte’s favourite song is “The Baby’s  Done a Poo”.

Mine is “The Pirate’s Breakfast”.

Made
As I said earlier, the think I’ve mostly made this month is plans and a whole lot of lists. However, the kids also made some cupcakes with their grandma to take to my friend’s 30th birthday party last weekend. Not a bad job for a 3 and 1 year old!

Wore
I know I’ve said it before, but I love Gemma from Mutha.Hood’s Instagram stories. I finally invested in one of her “bisou bisou” t-shirts in the sale and I can’t stop wearing it. Well, I can. White is not especially practical with 2 kids so it’s already been through the washing machine a fair few times but it’s washed really well and is super easy to wear.

and lastly
We are following up a busy January with a busy February. I think we have plans every weekend this month, apart from the weekend before we go on our travels which will be spent manically packing and getting ourselves organised instead. I know I’ve said it before but any tips or advice for flying to the other side of the world with a 3 year old and a 1.5 year old greatly appreciated. We will take all the help we can get.

    1. Sounds about right! I must admit, we cheated a bit. Grandma made the cakes in advance, and the kids just decorated them with her. Surprised all 12 made it to the party to be honest!

  6. I need to watch The Sinner, heard good things (and I like that it's only 8 episodes). We are currently working our way through Peaky Blinders, just finished Season 1. The cakes look great! Enjoy your Sunday xx

    1. I really enjoyed The Sinner so would recommend. I’ve not seen any of Peaky Blinders yet. When I’m so many seasons behind it feels like a massive commitment to start something new! Ha! We’ve still not got through Breaking Bad as we were late to the party with that.

  7. Oh Riverdale is my guilty pleasure! That along with the equally far fetched and over dramatic Dynasty!
The MuthaHood has so many fab tshirts, my girls and I have matching Strong Girls Club ones.
    Hope you're having a good week x

  8. Nick Cope sounds fab - we'll have to check him out, I bet my boys would love his songs. And those cupcakes look awesome! #LittleLoves

    1. You really should. Most “kids” music grates on me after about 10 minutes but we actually listen to him most meal times (through the amazon echo - so guessing he’s on amazon music? I’m not the tech person in the house!) Some days the kids aren’t in the room and I’ve found myself still singing along. Haha.
