Crocodiles of the World │Review

Over the August bank holiday weekend (sorry, I’m still playing catch up with summer blog posts!) we visited Crocodiles of the World in Brize Norton. My 3 year old son is currently really into all things crocodilian and reptilian, so we though that it would be a day out he would really enjoy.

We’d left the Bank Holiday weekend free as we weren’t sure what we were going to do, and we wanted to see the weather was like. The weather was glorious, and mistakenly we thought that by heading to Crocodiles of the World we would have ample opportunity to shade from the sun. We we able to spend time indoors, but obviously the buildings are designed to keep the animals warm. Whilst watching the Nile Crocodiles being fed I had sweat running down my back (nice, I know!), and I had to give my son a wipe down with baby wipes afterwards as his hair and t-shirt were sticking to him! If you go on a warm day make sure you pack plenty of water!

Compared to other zoo-type attractions I thought the tickets were fairly reasonably priced at £27 for a family ticket (2 adults and 2 children) however, it’s not somewhere you would spend all day at. We spent around 3 hours there, including a picnic, but you could easily get around in much less time.

As well as the crocodiles, alligators and caimans there were also tortoise, snakes, monitor lizards, macaws, kookaburras, meerkats, otters and tamarins. I was surprised that the zoo had birds and mammals, but they did added a bit of variety to the day. The kids were very brave and stroked some of the snakes the handlers were holding. If you wish, older children and adults can have a photo taken holding a baby crocodile. This comes at an additional cost, and happens at different time slots throughout the day.

We had a lovely few hours out at Crocodiles of the World, and we would go back, but probably not on a hot day over a bank holiday! Next time I think we’ll tie it in with a visit to Burford Garden Company which is just round the corner, but on this occasion we were all a bit hot and sticky, and just wanted to get home to cool down!

P.S. I was also very amused by the signage throughout the zoo. Very childish, but they made me smile!
